Wilkin Chapman

Turnover (£m): 15.8
RPL (£k): 208

Lincolnshire firm Wilkin Chapman added a third Grimsby office when it merged with Grange Wintringham in August 2010. The merger added 12 per cent to the firm’s overall turnover, with Wilkin posting a total revenue of £15.8m. During 2010-11 Wilkin Chapman also brought on board public sector sole practitioner Jonathan Goolden, also in Grimsby.

The mergers led to a reorganisation of departments in Grimsby, with the offices now structured along departmental lines. The firm also instituted a new practice management system.

Although Wilkin does not disclose profit, chief executive Julia Whittaker says the firm is happy with its results. Equity partners are remunerated mainly on a lockstep basis, although 10 per cent of profit is allocated on a merit basis.

The firm closed in Cleethorpes at the beginning of 2011-12 with a few redundancies, but is setting itself up for organic growth across the rest of the region with new premises in Lincoln.
