Leeds-headquartered Simpson Millar, which has offices in 10 UK cities, saw its turnover rise to £13m in the past financial year following its September 2009 acquisition of education and healthcare boutique MG Law. The legacy MG business brought in £1.15m in 2010-11, more than double its previous revenue.

Education has been the focus of growth for Simpson Millar over the past year, with lawyers recruited for its London, Birmingham and Gateshead offices, as well as Lancaster, where MG Law was based. The firm also recruited a holiday law specialist from Thomas Cook in December 2010.

Simpson Millar focuses on private client ­contentious work, including personal injury, road accidents, holiday claims, medical ­negligence and employment law. It also ­provides advice on conveyancing, debt recovery and family law and has a well-established trade union practice.
