Tollers saw a slight decline in turnover in 2010-11, from £8.6m to £8.4m. Indeed, the East Midlands firm has seen revenue decline steadily since its 2007-08 high of £11.5m.

While the total fee-earning headcount at the firm remained static at 84, the number of lawyers dropped from 46 to 37. Tollers is also one partner down.
The firm did not provide profitability figures, but its earnings per partner figure stood at a healthy £268,000. Tollers operates a two-tier partnership system, with 11 full equity partners remunerated via lockstep and a further seven non-equity partners.

Litigation continues to be Tollers’ primary fee-earning area, accounting for 68 per cent of turnover in 2010-11 and employing 12 ­partners. The team’s focus includes personal injury as well as commercial litigation.

Meanwhile, the two-partner property team, which handles both residential and ­commercial property transactions, brought in 14 per cent of total revenue at the firm last year.
